Final Short Story

Kelsey Schile
Final Short Story

It was a Friday night and it was my birthday. So I got together with some of my best friends and we went to go celebrate at Applebees. Everyone came over to my apartment around 7 and we hung out there for a little bit and talked about how our lives are going and what was new. We left my apartment around 8:30 at night and car-pooled to Applebees. Once we got there it was not busy at all and we all thought that was strange. It was a Friday night and there was basically no one at Applebees when usually there’s a lot of people there around this time.

So the host took us to our seats and said your waiter will be here to take your order in a minute. Well about twenty minutes past and our waiter hasn’t shown up yet. We thought that was very strange. There were eight of us and we all stood up and looked around, Applebees was empty. We all became worried; we didn’t know what was going on. Many questions were running through my mind like, “should we leave? Where’s our waiter? What’s going on?” So very slowly and quietly we grabbed our jacket, purses, and other things and slowly slid out of the booth and stood up.

I turn around and our waiter is standing there. He was dressed in all black from head to toe; black pants, black shirt, black tie, and black shoes. He asked us why we’re leaving. We all froze. I stuttered several times and said, “w-w-w-we’re not h-hungry an-anymore.” He just looked at me with a blank stare across his face. We stood there for about five minutes just in silence. My eight friends, me and the waiter all staring at each other and nobody else is in sight. At this time we didn’t really know what to do, it was 10:00 and I told my husband that I would be back before 10. I was rummaging through my purse and was looking for my phone to call him, the waiter belted out in a loud voice, “STOP!” I froze; I didn’t know what to do. My friends and I quickly sat back down and we all looked like ghosts. The waiter glared at us and walked back to the kitchen. We all started whispering and plotted on how we were going to get out of there and fast. We heard the door open, it was the waiter. Of course it was we were the ONLY people there. We all went back to our ghostly looks and silent. He put down nine glasses of water and walked away.

We started whispering again. I’m sure that he could hear us because some of them were talking really loud because they kept getting more and more nervous because they thought we were never going to get home. About twenty minutes later he came back with a basket of chicken fingers and a basket of french fries. He stood there for five minutes and slowly started to walk backwards towards the kitchen. There was a table behind him that he was about to run into but all nine of us figured we should not tell him and see if he runs into it. So of course he ran into the table because he was not watching where he was going. He turned around and looked at the table and wondered how it got there. We all started to giggle and he swiftly turned around and started glaring at us and slipped into the kitchen. We immediately started to whisper again about how we were going to escape from this prison.

I was looking down at my water glass and glanced up, looked at the kitchen and saw a glimpse of my husband in the window. He quickly moved. It couldn’t have been my husband, he was at home. All the other girls were still whispering and trying to figure out how to get out. I slide out of the booth slowly and stood up. The whispering stopped and they all stared. I tip-toed over to the kitchen door to see if my husband was in there. I reached the kitchen door I was squatted door in front of the door. I slowly stood up and my face was right at the window. Once I finally looked in the window the waiter popped up and told me to go sit down. I screamed and ran back to the table, terrified. All the girls stopped what they were doing and stared at me like I was crazy, which I don’t blame them! A few minutes later I glanced at the door again, and I saw my husband’s face. I was dreaming; he couldn’t have been here; he was at home. There’s no way he is in the kitchen right now. The waiter comes out again, hands us our bill and leaves. Quickly, my friend lays fifty dollars down and bolted to the door to leave. We didn’t think that that was a very good idea.

The waiter comes to our table and sees my friend standing at the door, he asked he what she was doing. She stuttered and said, “I-I-I-I have t-to go t-to t-the bat-thro-om.” He points to the back by the kitchen and says it’s back there. She stares back by the bathrooms and says, “Umm, I can hold it.” And quickly comes and sits down again. The waiter leaves. About twenty more minutes pass and the waiter comes walking out of the kitchen. But he is holding something in his hand. He’s holding a bouquet of a dozen red roses and gives them to me. I’m really puzzled and have no idea what is going on. All he said was, “here, these are from your husband.” Now I was really confused! How did he know my husband? Is my husband here? What is going on? The waiter leaves and as the waiter is walking away my husband walks out of the kitchen. I have no idea what is going on still. I ran up to him and said, “what are you doing here? We have to get out of here!” He just started to laugh. I didn’t understand what was happening.

He just smiled at me and didn’t say a word. I quickly jumped to the gun, “What is so funny?!” All he said was, “happy birthday sweetheart.” My husband was in all along with this kidnapping. All my friends just stared at him with a blank look on their faces. After about five minutes of silence and staring at each other it finally clicked in my mind that this was all a joke and that my husband was surprising me. Nobody has ever surprised me on my birthday before. Shortly after that we all piled up in the minivan and drove back to my house. I was still in shock when we got home but after all of the fear and surprises that happened tonight, I thought it was a great birthday.

Journal 4-7-11

I think that this class has prepared me enough for college. I thought this class was pretty good and a good experience for me. There are some things that I liked doing and there are some things that i didn't like to do. One of the things that I liked to do was the lyric assignment. I love listening to music so I enjoyed hearing different songs and genres from other people than what I am used to. Another thing that I liked was the poetry unit but I feel like that was a little to long. I did like the daily journal and the topics. I thought some of them were fun to right about and some were not so fun to right about. I also enjoy writing the twist ending final short story. I really like criminal and mystery shows so this is a topic that I'm actually interested in for a paper.

The things I didn't like was the science fiction short story and some of the poetry unit. I didn't really like writing the science fiction short story because it was hard to find a topic that I wanted to write about. I didn't know where the setting would be, who the characters would be, what the plot would be, and all the other things. Science fiction is my least favorite category for books/ short stories so that is why it was tough for me to write that. There were some parts that I liked about the poetry unit but some that I didn't. I thought that the poetry unit was to long. It got kind of boring towards the end of the unit because we were writing poetry for a while.

Worst Experience at a Restaurant

My worst experience at a restaurant was in Washington D.C. and I went to this restaurant with my family while we were on vacation. We asked for recommendations and some guy suggested this restaurant my mom asked if it was fancy and he said no. We showed up at the restaurant in jeans and t-shirts while everyone else was in dresses, and suits and ties. I couldn't count the number of times we got weird looks from everybody around us. So we ordered our food which was like $50 for one steak. When we got our food it was all burned and it was cold. My dad complained to the waiter a couple times but the waiter didn't fix it or do anything about it. Everybody's food was horrible, even if it was cooked correctly it still would have tasted awful. I forgot what the restaurant was called but that's the last time I take suggestions from someone I don't know about a restaurant. This was probably the worst restaurant experience that I have ever had.

Restaurant Journal

If I opened up a restaurant the name if it would be Kelsey's Kitchen. It would look like any other restaurant place. Just in a building with a lot of decorations on the outside to make it look fun and enjoyable to be at. I would serve a lot of different things. Different types of seafood, hamburgers, salads, Italian, Mexican, and anything that you could think of I would sell. People that work there would be energetic and welcoming to the customers. Also they have to be nice and patient with the customers. If the employees do all of that we would be successful as a restaurant and more people would want to come back because they liked it so much.

I just got home from work and was really exhausted. I thought that I saw something moving under the rug but I could have been imagining it. But then it moved again and I knew I wasn't imagining it this time. I quickly grabbed the closest thing to me, which was a chair and was about to hit it. My wife walked in and started yelling at me for wanting to hit whatever was under the rug. She said she was cleaning the floor and all I thought was what does that have to do with anything right now. Then all of a sudden a little vacuum cleaner came rolling out from under the rug. I just looked at her and she just smiled.

Science Fiction Paper

Kelsey Schile Period 2 Science Fiction Paper When I opened my eyes I noticed a totally different world than what I remembered. I didn’t know what was going on. I was lying on my back in my bed, just like snow white. I sat up slowly looking at everything around me. The room I was in was full of stuffed animals and everything princess, which was my bedroom. I quietly walked out of my bedroom and walked down the hallway to the staircase. When I got to the staircase I could hear someone downstairs in the kitchen making noise. I immediately froze and didn’t know what to do. I could feel all the blood in my body running down to my feet; I felt like a ghost, I even looked like a ghost. I walked down the stairs as quiet as I could, just like I mouse. Once I got to the bottom of the stairs I peeked my head around the corner and nothing was there. As I took my first step around the corner the front door opened, I ran straight up to my bedroom and quietly locked the door. In my head I was thinking what was going to happen to me, how am I going to get out, who is in my house. I glanced down and saw my hand; they were all wrinkling and old looking. I felt my face and I could feel the wrinkles in my face, I started to worry! I was asking myself so many questions, “Am I dying? What is going on? Why am I like this?” I opened my bedroom door and tip-toed to the bathroom to look in the mirror. I couldn’t believe what I saw in that mirror. I saw an old lady and it couldn’t have been me. I was only 14 years old, I’m not old. I was so confused why I was like this. I decided to face my fears and walk downstairs and ask the trespasser why they were in my house. So I marched out of the bathroom and march right up to the trespasser and realized that he looked really attractive. He looked old just like I did; he was taller than me and very handsome. I wasn’t scared at all to face this creature until I got right up next to him, then I was terrified. I gulped and raised the courage up and said, “why are you in my house?!” He didn’t answer. I asked again, “why are you in my house?!” He just stood there and stared at me. Then he asked, “Why are you in my house?” I told him that I didn’t understand and I told him that this is my house and has been for the last 14 years. He thought I was psycho and was giving me a look that told me he thought I was crazy. I asked him what was going on. He said he’s lived here the past 14 years. I thought I was confused before, now I’m really puzzled. He then told me I’ve been frozen the last 100 years in my bedroom and that everything has changed. I thought he was crazy this time. I asked him who he was and he said, “Hi my name is Jimmy. What’s your name?” As he winked at me. I stuttered a few time but finally spit it out and said “S-S-S-Sally,” and giggled. After our little flirt session he asked how old I was, I got really nervous! I didn’t know what to tell him, I didn’t want to tell him that I was 14! I sat there and pondered on how old I thought he was, but I just asked him instead. He said that he was 58 years old. My first thought was well I’m way past 58 if you told me I was frozen for 100 years! When I sat there looking at him and trying to think of a number he asked me again how old I was. So I just blurted out 56, he got the biggest smile on his face I’ve ever seen. After having about 5 seconds of awkward eye contact he asked me to go get dinner with him, of course I said yes! We both got ready to go to a fancy dinner together at a great restaurant downtown. After we were ready we bolted out the door to his fancy new Cadillac and sped off to the restaurant. It took about 25minutes to get to this restaurant. When we finally got there I saw a boat out in the middle of the ocean and that was it. I asked him, “where are we eating, Jimmy?” he said out there and pointed to the big boat in the middle of the ocean. My jaw fell straight to the floor and I was speechless. All of a sudden I got a whole pack of butterflies swarming in my stomach, I felt very much respected by Jimmy because he did all this work for me. We walked out to the dock and there was a gondola waiting for me and Jimmy and our own person driving. So we got into the gondola and sailed off to the boat for our lovely dinner. Once we got there we climb up the later to find a little picnic table with candles and pasta waiting for us to eat. Everything was so amazing; it reminded me of the parent trap in a way which was my favorite movie when I was younger. Over dinner Jimmy and I talked about many things such as politics, our past, our favorite hobbies and interests and many more things. Jimmy is someone I can really connect with and I feel comfortable around him. A few hours past and it was already 9 o’clock. So we hop onto the gondola and sail back to the dock and his fancy Cadillac. Once we get into the Cadillac we drive back to Jimmy’s house. I was getting ready to leave Jimmy’s house when I remembered that I have nowhere to go. I don’t know what year it is, what month it is, I’m totally lost. I asked Jimmy if I could stay on his couch for tonight until I figure out what I’m doing with my “new” life. He said of course, I’m welcome to stay as long as I want too or need too. So Jimmy goes into his bedroom and gets ready for bed and I go into the bathroom to get ready for bed. About two hours later we’re both sound asleep. The next morning I wake up to the smell of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and muffins and many other delicious foods. Jimmy had made breakfast for me while I was asleep.

Behind her the noise escalated from the pots and pans falling to the floor. She looked up on the counter and saw her cat sitting there staring at her. She turned around and looked at the cat when she heard another loud noise behind her. She quickly turned around and saw nothing there. She was a little scared now and thought that someone else was in the house. She called her husband a few times and left some voice mails and kept getting more nervous as the minutes went by. She turned around and saw a man standing in her living room holding something. She quickly ran in the other direction but the man turned on the light. And it was he husband standing there holding flowers for her.

The clocked winked and it was midnight, my curfew. Around 8 I left my house and went over to a friends house with a few people. We were watching some movies and just talking. When I was walking out the door my dad yelled, "Be home by midnight!" and I said, "Alright." So as the night went all I got super tired. I ended up falling asleep at my friends house while we were watching a movie. All of a sudden I woke up and nobody was there and I looked at my phone and it said 12:00. I knew that I was going to be in really big trouble! So i ran out to my car as fast as I could and sped all the way home! I got home at 12:13 and my dad was sitting on the couch waiting for me to walk in. The only words he said to me were, "Good you're home, we'll talk about this in the morning. Goodnight." So I went and layed up in bed and didn't want the morning to come. I barely slept because I was think about what my punishment would be and what my parents would say to me.

Spring Break

Over Spring break I didn't really do that much. Every single day my mom had a "kids" cleaning list, so that took up most of my day. That list consisted of cleaning my bedroom, my bathroom, doing homework, cleaning up all my "messes" in the living room and the kitchen. Also cleaning up after my dog outside and cleaning the litter box from my cat. So that was really exciting for me.... Then Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday night I had volleyball practice for 4 hours. On Saturday I hung out with some friends at night but during the day I had volleyball from 7 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon. We had a power league which is like a little tournament. We ended up winning the first two matches but losing the third match to Northern Lights 17-1. We took them to three games and lost in the third game 15-13. That was really tough on my team and me because it was the last power league and the last chance to play that team. On Sunday I just relaxed and basically did a little bit of homework and watched a lot of TV and just layed around all day. That was the only day I really didn't have to do much so that was really nice!

Well I am a spoon sitting in the dishwasher I feel all dirty. A little girl just used me to eat her pudding and the mother didn't even wash me off. All the pudding is still crusty and it's sticking to me! The dishwasher door opens the mother throws in a soap packet and starts the dishwasher. All of a sudden I am flying all over in the dishwasher from the water and the soap. A few seconds later everything just stops, I have a huge headache now. All the dishes are still wet but we all just sit there. After a couple hours I'm all dry and the door opens. We are all put back into our regular spots in the kitchen. That was an experience I never want to have again.

If i could invent one thing to help mankind it would be something to solve terrorism. Because right now we have "tighter" security in airports but somehow people still find ways to get the stuff they need past security all the time. So our country is only a little bit more safe but not as safe as it could be in this situation. I feel like if we had less terrorism then people would be nicer and more respectful to each other.

I once dreamed about falling off of a cliff. I was riding on my bike with a few friends during the Summer in Montana. In Montana there is a "M" on top of the mountain and a zig-zag trail leading up to it. My friends and I decided to climb up to it. It took us about an hour to get to the top, but once we got to the top we looked on the other side of the mountain and it was a drop-off. All you could see was the ground at the bottom. So we were joking around about what would happen if we fell off. After that me and my friend got in a little argument and she pushed me off the side of the mountain. Soon after that I jumped up in bed and realized it was a dream.

I wish someone had told me that my cousin was adopted. I found out that my cousin was adopted a few years ago when I was 14 and he's now 20. When my mom told me at first that he was adopted I didn't believe her because my cousin looks just like my uncle! I'm closest to this cousin more than my other cousins. That's another reason why I didn't believe that he was adopted. I was really confused when they told me and I was mad. I looked at my cousin differently after that because he was adopted but I soon got over it and we're really close again. He's the closest cousin to my age so we can relate to a lot in our life. He always tells me what to look forward to in college and what to watch out for. He's basically like my older brother that I don't have.

  • An alien falls in love with a human
  • Animals can talk to humans
  • The world is ending

Journal 3-15-11

This is really weird. I have never seen someone driving the road in a shoe car. I wonder how he made it. If I was him driving down the road I would be totally embarrassed of being in it. Or if that was my brother driving down the road I would also be embarrassed. If i was related to him in any way I would be embarrassed. I wonder how people even think of these random ideas of things to invent? I wonder if he is embarrassed or anxious to be driving down the street in a shoe or if he is just happy because he's probably the only person in the world to have a shoe car.

My journey on a Pirate Ship

My family took a family vacation on a Pirate ship. We all pretended that we were pirates for a weekend. So we rented this Pirate Ship at the dock for the weekend. So when we first got on the ship we thought it was a little weird pretending to be Pirates but after awhile it got kind of fun. Throughout the weekend we were just joking around on deck and pretending to be the best Pirates we could. The weekend was almost over but living on this Pirate ship for the weekend was so much fun and nobody wanted to leave. So we ended up living on this Pirate ship the rest of our lives. To me and my family this was like a dream come true! We never in a million years thought that we would be living on a Pirate Ship. We just sailed around on the ocean for many years and had the best time of our lives.

Person Losing Valuable Item

My name is Bella and I lost my best friend, Edward. I was in love with Edward. I remember the first time I met Edward. We were sitting in biology class together and he seemed kind of strange to me. I noticed that his eyes were all black and I didn't understand why. The next day he was gone from class and two weeks after that. When he came back his eyes weren't black anymore they were more of a golden color. I asked him why he was acting so weird but he didn't understand what I meant. I found out that he was a vampire and that's why his eyes changed color like that. I accepted him for it. Soon after that we started hanging out a lot and getting to know each other. But he told me he had to leave me because his family was moving. Edward then left with his family, and that was the last time I would see him.

Stack of Paper by the Shredder

If I was a stack of papers by the shredder I would try and slide the other way. Not one piece of paper that I know would want to be shredded so they would probably be thinking the same thing. I would pretend that the "wind" blew me the other way but we're in an office with no windows so that's a little unrealistic, but hey it might work. If that didn't work I would try and slide a centimeter at a time away from the shredder. I feel like that would be a better plan. If that didn't work, then I have no more ideas left. I would be shredded.

So when their lunch break came around they went out to a sub shop on Broadway Blvd. They got their sandwiches and sat down and started talking. Marian started to ask about Joey's child hood and Joey didn't have much to say about that. Joey told Marian that he didn't have a great child hood. He was living in a poor family and they were very short on money and were running out of ways to survive. Joey's dad manage to find a job that paid well enough to get them through the next couple months. Soon after that Joey found this Target job and is helping his family out a lot.

Vinanelle

There was a black cat
He was sitting on a hill
Next to him was a hat

He was laying on a mat
With his owner Bill
That is where they sat

He said he saw a bat
But it was a wind mill
The cat was very fat

They went to meet Pat
Away from the hill
Flying around was a nat

Then the black cat
Ran from the window sill
Down to the hat

He saw the bat
Flying towards the hill
Right where the hat
And right whee he sat

How ridiculous I was as a child. I was always being goofy and silly all the time. I had a favorite stuffed animal and it was an octopus and his name was Charles. My little sister would always twist his legs around and be mean to him and I didn't like that. One day I was playing outside with one of my friends and it was about to rain. So I dropped everything and ran inside. About an hour later I realized I left Charles outside. My dad ran and got him for me and when he came back in he was drenched from the pouring rain. I felt really bad for my dad but I was glad he went and got it for me.

Change the World

Well I don't really know what to say about how to change the government. I don't know many things about the government so I can't really say how I would try and change it. But one thing I would change in the world would be to tell people to be nice to one another and to open up to them and make other people feel comfortable to be around other people. Instead of avoiding people and ignoring them like some people I know do to other people. Also, I would try and get people to help other people. If you see someone with a flat tire and your driving, you should stop and help them or at least offer to help them change it not just drive by and pretend like you didn't see them. Or if someone is stuck in the snow, which seems to happen a lot in Minnesota, offer to push them out or to shovel them out. I feel like if everyone helps each other out this world would be a much better place.

The house was made of candy. The house was wobbly because the licorice was not strong enough to hold it up. There was a wagon in the back full of more candy to add on to the house but you had to squint to see it from the driveway. You could see the twinkle in the little kids eyes when they walked by this candy house. The woman who made this house was named Gabby. She said that she was the first person ever to made a house out of candy in the world. She lived in Colorado, so during the winter the candy would freeze and then it would be more balanced. Gabby when getting older and didn't know how to keep her house up without her to keep fixing it. But she had a little grand daughter who thought the house was cool and wanted to keep it going for her grandma, so that's exactly what she did when her grandma passed away a few weeks later.

3 People to Dinner Table

If I could have three people at the dinner table with me I would invite Jason Aldean, Taylor Lautner, and Taylor Swift. I would invite Jason because he is one of my favorite artists. I have liked Jason Aldean and his music ever since I heard the very first song I listened to of his! I would invite Taylor Lautner because I like the Twilight movies. At first I wasn't a fan of Twilight but once I actually read it and saw the movie, I really liked it. I would invite Taylor Swift because I love all of her music and she's also one of my favorite artists. When I first listened to Taylor Swift's music I didn't really like it but I kind of got used to it and I could relate to some of her songs that she wrote. So I just started to like her music after a while.

Assonance

The sun is bright as the kids have fun
Playing on the beach looking for a leech
Making sand castles while going hand in hand
The smell of sunscreen, the sand sticking to you when you fell
Playing with the beach ball and doesn't want Fall to come
Throwing a frisbee and rowing in a canoe
Every day you lay on the beach
Getting a nice tan with your man next to you
Kids running around forgetting to put the lid on the food
All the boys losing their toys in the sand
They are all wired but soon after they'll be tired
The kids leap into the car and soon fall asleep

Scary Moment

My scariest moment would probably be visiting a haunted church on the way home from Detroit Lakes. The past two years the varsity volleyball team has gone up to Detroit Lakes for a weekend for some team bonding time. We stay at Nickleby's parents' house and we go and practice with the Detroit Lakers at their high school. So on the way up there our assistant coach, Bennett told us a story about this haunted church she went to over the summer. She told us that ever since then there has been weird things happening to her. When we past the church she tried to call Egan on her cell phone, but it went straight to voicemail and lost connecting but Egan's phone didn't even ring. So we got to Detroit Lakes and stayed for the weekend and played beach volleyball and we did a scaventure hunt. After we went to go practice in their gym we packed up and left. On the way home we decided to stop at the church. Bennett didn't to but everyone else did, so we did. Everyone got out and went to go try and get in the church. The church was dead bolted shut and so Nickleby took the dead bolt off and opened the door. It was really dark inside the church so we brought flashlights. While there was 3 or 4 girls that walked inside the church Egan thought it would be funny to start pounding on the side of the church to freak us out, which worked! When Bennett went there with some of her friends it was around 11 o'clock and she said that they turned the corner into the church and saw the profile of the girl that was murdered there bouncing across the cemetery. The church was called Darling Church but every since the girl was murdered they call it Darling Cemetery. So every since then the EV varsity volleyball team has made it a tradition to stop there every year on the way home from Detroit Lakes.

Journal 2-23-11

This past weekend I had a volleyball tournament in Omaha. We ended up taking 7th place but were expected to do much better. There were about 63 teams in the 18's division. We left for Omaha on Friday around 3 o'clock. The club director rented 5 coach buses to ride down to Omaha on. We got to the hotel around 9 at night and ate some dinner then we were off to bed. We woke up at 6 the next morning. Our first match was at 8 a.m., which we won. Then we played at 10, and 12, which we won as well. That night we went to a restaurant called Jazz with all the parents and the whole team and coaches. It's this Louisiana style restaurant, but the food was really good! After we were done eating we went back to the hotel and layed around. Then we had a team meeting and went to bed at 10:30. Then we woke up the next morning at 6 to play again. This time is didn't turn out so great. We won one and lost 2. After that disappointing day we went back to the hotel to shower and take a nap. Then we just ordered pizza for dinner, which was really good. After that we all layed around and watched Criminal Minds for a good 4 hours! After that we had to pack and go to bed around 10:30 again. The next morning we got up at 6, did the same routine but we had to put our bags in the chaps room because we were checking out that day. So we did all that and went to the gym around 7, our first match was at 8 again, which we won. Then we watch another match and we needed one team to lose so we were in the gold but unfortunately that didn't happen, so we ended up in the silver bracket. So then we played at 12 and won so we took 7th in the tournament. After that we all went to get our bags and started driving home. It took an extra 2 hours to get home because of the blizzard and the roads were really bad. So we ended up getting home around 11 and my mom would not let me sleep in, which kind of made me mad. But even though we didn't do as well as we planned I thought we still did good in the tournament and made memories on and off the court with the team.

Alliteration Poem

Players are ready to go
Getting all warm to play
You'll lose if you go with the flow
You can win on any given day

Chemistry on a team is key
Being aggressive can win
Be annoying like a flea
Play smooth like a fin

Childhood Memory

One of my earliest childhood memories was when I lived in Austin, Minnesota and my older sister played volleyball for Austin High School. Whenever she had a game my little sister and I would always go and we went into the other gym with a volleyball. We would always practice playing volleyball, and we thought we were so good. I was only 6 years old and my little sister was 3 years old, but we thought we were amazing. Ever since the first time we played volleyball in that gym, I haven't stopped playing it. I started to play on this little league thing that some of the parents organized. My little sister was with me too. I remember that we would always buy a pop and skittles and go sit in the gym before we started to play and eat all the skittles and then just chug the pop. Then after that we would play volleyball non-stop until my sister's game was over. When we first would get to the school we would immediately run right to the gym where the volleyballs were then sprint to the other gym to play. We honestly had the time of our lives in there playing volleyball all the time.

Sense Of Time Poem

June
June is neon yellow
The color of the sun
June feels like freedom
It sounds like Rascal Flatts
It smells like the ocean and the beach
June tastes like caffeine and sugar
It's just the beginning of Summer

Journal 2-18-11

A woman walks out into the cold night air. Her hands are shaking from what just happened. She was watching TV in the kitchen and she was cutting vegetables for her dinner that she was making. She accidentally sliced her thumb while she was cutting them. She immediately grabbed her cut and ran out the door to get some fresh air and to calm down. She didn't know what to do and she was home alone. After she calmed down a little she went inside to call her husband. Her husband quickly came home and drove her to the hospital. She was in the waiting room for about 5 minutes until the doctor called her in. She ended up needing to get 18 stitches on her cut because it was so deep. She told her husband that she will never watch TV and cut vegetables at the same time again.

This weekend I have a volleyball tournament in Omaha, Nebraska. We ride down on a coach bus with a few other teams from our club. We leave on Friday, we play on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and then drive home Monday after we are done playing! I have been going to Omaha for this tournament since I was 13 years old. I've been playing for the same volleyball club, Northern Lights, since I was 13. Playing at Northern Lights has been a great opportunity for me because I have become better at volleyball. Also, my college coach saw me playing at Omaha for the first time, so if I wasn't playing Northern Lights I probably wouldn't have a full-ride scholarship to play at the University of Montana. For this tournament I'm really hoping that we can get first. We've never gotten first there before, but last year we got third. On my team I have the same exact 10 girls as we did last year so our team chemistry started way before everyone else. Northern Lights has players from all over the metro area. On my team there's a girl from Mankato, Northfield, and Belle Plain, Woodbury and they have to drive to Burnsville 3 times a week for practices. I'm really excited for Omaha because I know that we will start off the tournament strong and hopefully win the whole thing.

Journal- 2/16/11

I wake up and try to take a deep breath, but the deeper the breath the more severe the pain. The ground is hard beneath my back, and I feel a dull pain in my arm. I must have slipped on a rock and must have fallen off the cliff. I was on my back and my head hurts really bad and I can't remember anything. I remember going hiking on this mountain and the next thing I know I'm laying on my back on a mountain. Also I remember that I'm supposed to be going to a party tonight but I don't think that is going to happen anymore. I can't find my cell phone so I must have lost it during the fall. I sat up and was very dizzy. So I layed back down for a few minutes and fell asleep. Then I woke up and it was dark outside. I had no idea what time it was or what was going on or how long I've been on this mountain. My friends realized that they haven't heard from me at all but they knew I was going hiking. They called the cops to report me missing. It seemed like a long time but I heard a helicopter over my head. I was finally rescued, I was taken to the nearest hospital. When I woke up at the hospital my family was all there. They told me that I was missing for 2 weeks, but it seemed like a lot longer than that. My injures were a concussion, broken back, and a broken left arm. I was unconscious for about 3 days before I finally woke up at the mountain for the first time. I stayed in the hospital for a few more days then finally got to go home with my family and friends.

Metaphor Poem

Flying high in the sky
Like an airplane
Feeling the wind through my hair
And on my face
My teeth chattering
Embracing every moment
Can't wait to land on the ground
The perfect place to be

My Best Friend

My best friend has always been there for me. We went to middle school together but we didn't talk at all. During one quarter sophomore year we had a class together and started talking a little bit. Then the next quarter we had 3 classes together and started talking a lot and started to hang out. He always listens to me and I always listen to him. He gives me great advice on anything. I also give him advice with the things that he asks me. He always listens to what I have to say all the time. Whenever I need someone to talk to he seems to always be there. He's helped me through so much in my life and hopefully that will continue. Even though we're going to different colleges I want to keep in touch as much as possible with him. He's been my best friend for the past two years and is always there for me no matter what happens.

Ode to volleyball

You're are my favorite sport
I'm always playing
You've helped me with many things
I'm always competitive
I still have 4 years left
I'm going to make them the best
Still being competitive
Working my best to win
Always training as hard as I can
Never giving up at anytime
You make me feel happy
Eight years you've been in my life
And will be for many more years
I'll always have volleyball in my life

Journal- 2/14/10

Out of the dark we came, into the dangerous light. The only reason we came out of the dark cave was because we heard someone playing the trumpet. The high pitched squeal definitely caught our attention from the cave. So we walked over to the trumpet player to ask him what he was doing. He said he was setting up a crafty contest for musicians to come and play. That didn't seem very interesting to us, so we said good luck with that and walked away to the cave. When we got back to the cave I could smell something really bad. Then I noticed that my friend hasn't showered for 4 days so I said, "Take a shower, you reek!" Then he went and took a shower and didn't smell so bad anymore! By this time is was dark out so we made a fire and we sat around it singing campfire songs and roasting marshmallows.

There once was a girl named Sue

Her dog was named Charlie

Daily Journal- 2/9/11

Today I woke up to see the mountains in Colorado and I rolled out of bed to get in the shower before the kids woke up. My husband was already leaving for work when I got out of the shower. When I was all ready for work I made my kids breakfast before they woke up. I made pancakes and eggs and as soon as I was finished making them both my kids came running down the stairs. While they were eating breakfast I sat down in the living room and watched the morning news. After they were done eating they both went up to get ready for school. I cleaned up their dishes and made their lunches for the day. When they were done getting ready they raced downstairs to grab their bags and their lunches and ran to the bus stop. Shortly after that I left for work. After a long day at work I got home right before the kids did. A few hours went by then I made dinner for them. While I was making dinner my husband just got home from work. After everyone was done eating I cleaned up the dishes and sat down to watch Glee with the family. Shortly after Glee was done it was time to put the kids to bed.

Most Embarrassing Moment- 2/8/11

My most embarrassing moment was when I was playing volleyball at nationals in Florida last year. It was a really intense match, it was the semifinals. So if we won we went to the championship to get first place. So we won in the semis and so we went to the championship. During the championship match our setter dug a ball so I had to set the second ball. I was positioned in the right spot and i could tell it was going to be a perfect set. So the ball gets to my hands and falls right through my hands and the set wasn't so good after all. This championship match was being filmed so people could watch it online and on TV, so EVERYONE saw me mess up on that set. But we ended up losing that match pretty bad to a California team, but getting second place is still really good at nationals. That was probably my most embarrassing moment.

Daily Journal 2-7-11

You are walking down the street and out runs a zebra, you hear a roar and out strolls a lion. It turns and looks your way, then you take off running and the lion follows you. You run all the way to your house and the lion is right behind you. As you run inside your house the lion tries to follow you but you shut the door just before he gets inside. The lion tries to run through your door but can't get through. He then knocks the whole door down and gets inside to see you sitting there and just sits in your doorway. He looks at you for about 10 seconds and you just sit there and don't move or say anything. The after those 10 long seconds the lion just gets up and leaves.

Free Writing

In creative writing I want to learn how to become a better writer. I do like to write but I want to be better at it. I am kind of a good writer if I can choose what to write about and I usually pick something that I am interested in or something that I want to write about.
