Daily Journal 2/28/11

The house was made of candy. The house was wobbly because the licorice was not strong enough to hold it up. There was a wagon in the back full of more candy to add on to the house but you had to squint to see it from the driveway. You could see the twinkle in the little kids eyes when they walked by this candy house. The woman who made this house was named Gabby. She said that she was the first person ever to made a house out of candy in the world. She lived in Colorado, so during the winter the candy would freeze and then it would be more balanced. Gabby when getting older and didn't know how to keep her house up without her to keep fixing it. But she had a little grand daughter who thought the house was cool and wanted to keep it going for her grandma, so that's exactly what she did when her grandma passed away a few weeks later.

Sonnet Poem

As the volleyball hits the hard wood floor
The super fans cheer as loud as they can
The players run to the locker room door
Everyone has become a super fan
Point by point the energy is goes up
No body can believe what is happening
All the water is out and all the cups
All the digging and the blocking
We receive our gold medals after
Everyone is crying and is happy
The gym is full of loud laughter
Everyone is getting all sappy

3 People to Dinner Table

If I could have three people at the dinner table with me I would invite Jason Aldean, Taylor Lautner, and Taylor Swift. I would invite Jason because he is one of my favorite artists. I have liked Jason Aldean and his music ever since I heard the very first song I listened to of his! I would invite Taylor Lautner because I like the Twilight movies. At first I wasn't a fan of Twilight but once I actually read it and saw the movie, I really liked it. I would invite Taylor Swift because I love all of her music and she's also one of my favorite artists. When I first listened to Taylor Swift's music I didn't really like it but I kind of got used to it and I could relate to some of her songs that she wrote. So I just started to like her music after a while.

Assonance

The sun is bright as the kids have fun
Playing on the beach looking for a leech
Making sand castles while going hand in hand
The smell of sunscreen, the sand sticking to you when you fell
Playing with the beach ball and doesn't want Fall to come
Throwing a frisbee and rowing in a canoe
Every day you lay on the beach
Getting a nice tan with your man next to you
Kids running around forgetting to put the lid on the food
All the boys losing their toys in the sand
They are all wired but soon after they'll be tired
The kids leap into the car and soon fall asleep

Scary Moment

My scariest moment would probably be visiting a haunted church on the way home from Detroit Lakes. The past two years the varsity volleyball team has gone up to Detroit Lakes for a weekend for some team bonding time. We stay at Nickleby's parents' house and we go and practice with the Detroit Lakers at their high school. So on the way up there our assistant coach, Bennett told us a story about this haunted church she went to over the summer. She told us that ever since then there has been weird things happening to her. When we past the church she tried to call Egan on her cell phone, but it went straight to voicemail and lost connecting but Egan's phone didn't even ring. So we got to Detroit Lakes and stayed for the weekend and played beach volleyball and we did a scaventure hunt. After we went to go practice in their gym we packed up and left. On the way home we decided to stop at the church. Bennett didn't to but everyone else did, so we did. Everyone got out and went to go try and get in the church. The church was dead bolted shut and so Nickleby took the dead bolt off and opened the door. It was really dark inside the church so we brought flashlights. While there was 3 or 4 girls that walked inside the church Egan thought it would be funny to start pounding on the side of the church to freak us out, which worked! When Bennett went there with some of her friends it was around 11 o'clock and she said that they turned the corner into the church and saw the profile of the girl that was murdered there bouncing across the cemetery. The church was called Darling Church but every since the girl was murdered they call it Darling Cemetery. So every since then the EV varsity volleyball team has made it a tradition to stop there every year on the way home from Detroit Lakes.

Journal 2-23-11

This past weekend I had a volleyball tournament in Omaha. We ended up taking 7th place but were expected to do much better. There were about 63 teams in the 18's division. We left for Omaha on Friday around 3 o'clock. The club director rented 5 coach buses to ride down to Omaha on. We got to the hotel around 9 at night and ate some dinner then we were off to bed. We woke up at 6 the next morning. Our first match was at 8 a.m., which we won. Then we played at 10, and 12, which we won as well. That night we went to a restaurant called Jazz with all the parents and the whole team and coaches. It's this Louisiana style restaurant, but the food was really good! After we were done eating we went back to the hotel and layed around. Then we had a team meeting and went to bed at 10:30. Then we woke up the next morning at 6 to play again. This time is didn't turn out so great. We won one and lost 2. After that disappointing day we went back to the hotel to shower and take a nap. Then we just ordered pizza for dinner, which was really good. After that we all layed around and watched Criminal Minds for a good 4 hours! After that we had to pack and go to bed around 10:30 again. The next morning we got up at 6, did the same routine but we had to put our bags in the chaps room because we were checking out that day. So we did all that and went to the gym around 7, our first match was at 8 again, which we won. Then we watch another match and we needed one team to lose so we were in the gold but unfortunately that didn't happen, so we ended up in the silver bracket. So then we played at 12 and won so we took 7th in the tournament. After that we all went to get our bags and started driving home. It took an extra 2 hours to get home because of the blizzard and the roads were really bad. So we ended up getting home around 11 and my mom would not let me sleep in, which kind of made me mad. But even though we didn't do as well as we planned I thought we still did good in the tournament and made memories on and off the court with the team.

Alliteration Poem

Players are ready to go
Getting all warm to play
You'll lose if you go with the flow
You can win on any given day

Chemistry on a team is key
Being aggressive can win
Be annoying like a flea
Play smooth like a fin

Childhood Memory

One of my earliest childhood memories was when I lived in Austin, Minnesota and my older sister played volleyball for Austin High School. Whenever she had a game my little sister and I would always go and we went into the other gym with a volleyball. We would always practice playing volleyball, and we thought we were so good. I was only 6 years old and my little sister was 3 years old, but we thought we were amazing. Ever since the first time we played volleyball in that gym, I haven't stopped playing it. I started to play on this little league thing that some of the parents organized. My little sister was with me too. I remember that we would always buy a pop and skittles and go sit in the gym before we started to play and eat all the skittles and then just chug the pop. Then after that we would play volleyball non-stop until my sister's game was over. When we first would get to the school we would immediately run right to the gym where the volleyballs were then sprint to the other gym to play. We honestly had the time of our lives in there playing volleyball all the time.

Sense Of Time Poem

June
June is neon yellow
The color of the sun
June feels like freedom
It sounds like Rascal Flatts
It smells like the ocean and the beach
June tastes like caffeine and sugar
It's just the beginning of Summer

Journal 2-18-11

A woman walks out into the cold night air. Her hands are shaking from what just happened. She was watching TV in the kitchen and she was cutting vegetables for her dinner that she was making. She accidentally sliced her thumb while she was cutting them. She immediately grabbed her cut and ran out the door to get some fresh air and to calm down. She didn't know what to do and she was home alone. After she calmed down a little she went inside to call her husband. Her husband quickly came home and drove her to the hospital. She was in the waiting room for about 5 minutes until the doctor called her in. She ended up needing to get 18 stitches on her cut because it was so deep. She told her husband that she will never watch TV and cut vegetables at the same time again.

Free Writing

This weekend I have a volleyball tournament in Omaha, Nebraska. We ride down on a coach bus with a few other teams from our club. We leave on Friday, we play on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and then drive home Monday after we are done playing! I have been going to Omaha for this tournament since I was 13 years old. I've been playing for the same volleyball club, Northern Lights, since I was 13. Playing at Northern Lights has been a great opportunity for me because I have become better at volleyball. Also, my college coach saw me playing at Omaha for the first time, so if I wasn't playing Northern Lights I probably wouldn't have a full-ride scholarship to play at the University of Montana. For this tournament I'm really hoping that we can get first. We've never gotten first there before, but last year we got third. On my team I have the same exact 10 girls as we did last year so our team chemistry started way before everyone else. Northern Lights has players from all over the metro area. On my team there's a girl from Mankato, Northfield, and Belle Plain, Woodbury and they have to drive to Burnsville 3 times a week for practices. I'm really excited for Omaha because I know that we will start off the tournament strong and hopefully win the whole thing.

Journal- 2/16/11

I wake up and try to take a deep breath, but the deeper the breath the more severe the pain. The ground is hard beneath my back, and I feel a dull pain in my arm. I must have slipped on a rock and must have fallen off the cliff. I was on my back and my head hurts really bad and I can't remember anything. I remember going hiking on this mountain and the next thing I know I'm laying on my back on a mountain. Also I remember that I'm supposed to be going to a party tonight but I don't think that is going to happen anymore. I can't find my cell phone so I must have lost it during the fall. I sat up and was very dizzy. So I layed back down for a few minutes and fell asleep. Then I woke up and it was dark outside. I had no idea what time it was or what was going on or how long I've been on this mountain. My friends realized that they haven't heard from me at all but they knew I was going hiking. They called the cops to report me missing. It seemed like a long time but I heard a helicopter over my head. I was finally rescued, I was taken to the nearest hospital. When I woke up at the hospital my family was all there. They told me that I was missing for 2 weeks, but it seemed like a lot longer than that. My injures were a concussion, broken back, and a broken left arm. I was unconscious for about 3 days before I finally woke up at the mountain for the first time. I stayed in the hospital for a few more days then finally got to go home with my family and friends.

Metaphor Poem

Flying high in the sky
Like an airplane
Feeling the wind through my hair
And on my face
My teeth chattering
Embracing every moment
Can't wait to land on the ground
The perfect place to be

My Best Friend

My best friend has always been there for me. We went to middle school together but we didn't talk at all. During one quarter sophomore year we had a class together and started talking a little bit. Then the next quarter we had 3 classes together and started talking a lot and started to hang out. He always listens to me and I always listen to him. He gives me great advice on anything. I also give him advice with the things that he asks me. He always listens to what I have to say all the time. Whenever I need someone to talk to he seems to always be there. He's helped me through so much in my life and hopefully that will continue. Even though we're going to different colleges I want to keep in touch as much as possible with him. He's been my best friend for the past two years and is always there for me no matter what happens.

Ode to volleyball

You're are my favorite sport
I'm always playing
You've helped me with many things
I'm always competitive
I still have 4 years left
I'm going to make them the best
Still being competitive
Working my best to win
Always training as hard as I can
Never giving up at anytime
You make me feel happy
Eight years you've been in my life
And will be for many more years
I'll always have volleyball in my life

Journal- 2/14/10

Out of the dark we came, into the dangerous light. The only reason we came out of the dark cave was because we heard someone playing the trumpet. The high pitched squeal definitely caught our attention from the cave. So we walked over to the trumpet player to ask him what he was doing. He said he was setting up a crafty contest for musicians to come and play. That didn't seem very interesting to us, so we said good luck with that and walked away to the cave. When we got back to the cave I could smell something really bad. Then I noticed that my friend hasn't showered for 4 days so I said, "Take a shower, you reek!" Then he went and took a shower and didn't smell so bad anymore! By this time is was dark out so we made a fire and we sat around it singing campfire songs and roasting marshmallows.

There once was a girl named Sue
She needed to tie her shoe
Her dog was named Charlie
She liked Chris Farley
They all went to the zoo

Daily Journal- 2/9/11

Today I woke up to see the mountains in Colorado and I rolled out of bed to get in the shower before the kids woke up. My husband was already leaving for work when I got out of the shower. When I was all ready for work I made my kids breakfast before they woke up. I made pancakes and eggs and as soon as I was finished making them both my kids came running down the stairs. While they were eating breakfast I sat down in the living room and watched the morning news. After they were done eating they both went up to get ready for school. I cleaned up their dishes and made their lunches for the day. When they were done getting ready they raced downstairs to grab their bags and their lunches and ran to the bus stop. Shortly after that I left for work. After a long day at work I got home right before the kids did. A few hours went by then I made dinner for them. While I was making dinner my husband just got home from work. After everyone was done eating I cleaned up the dishes and sat down to watch Glee with the family. Shortly after Glee was done it was time to put the kids to bed.

Most Embarrassing Moment- 2/8/11

My most embarrassing moment was when I was playing volleyball at nationals in Florida last year. It was a really intense match, it was the semifinals. So if we won we went to the championship to get first place. So we won in the semis and so we went to the championship. During the championship match our setter dug a ball so I had to set the second ball. I was positioned in the right spot and i could tell it was going to be a perfect set. So the ball gets to my hands and falls right through my hands and the set wasn't so good after all. This championship match was being filmed so people could watch it online and on TV, so EVERYONE saw me mess up on that set. But we ended up losing that match pretty bad to a California team, but getting second place is still really good at nationals. That was probably my most embarrassing moment.

Daily Journal 2-7-11

You are walking down the street and out runs a zebra, you hear a roar and out strolls a lion. It turns and looks your way, then you take off running and the lion follows you. You run all the way to your house and the lion is right behind you. As you run inside your house the lion tries to follow you but you shut the door just before he gets inside. The lion tries to run through your door but can't get through. He then knocks the whole door down and gets inside to see you sitting there and just sits in your doorway. He looks at you for about 10 seconds and you just sit there and don't move or say anything. The after those 10 long seconds the lion just gets up and leaves.

Free Writing

In creative writing I want to learn how to become a better writer. I do like to write but I want to be better at it. I am kind of a good writer if I can choose what to write about and I usually pick something that I am interested in or something that I want to write about.
